Before purchasing a full fledged violin without knowing if my child would want to play, this was a great way to teach my daughter how to hold the violin, use the strings and bow as well as determine if this was something she would be interested in. I found the kit to be a great value and very useful as an introduction to a musical instrument.

When I brought this violin to a professional to be tuned (watching the DVD was no help to us), she laughed in my face, saying, "This is just a toy...it's not really meant to play music." The bow doesn't make any musical sound when run across the strings -- because the strings are just for "playing" with. This is NOT an instrument -- it's a very, very expensive piece of junk. DO NOT BUY THIS -- unless you want to feel like an idiot, like I do. This was a X-Mas present for my 5-year old and now she's left with nothing. I'm going to try to return it....

I bought this violin for my 6 year old daughter and when we finally got it the strings could not be tensioned to be tuned.
When you turn the tuning pegs they just turn right back once you let go!
